RADIOHEN / LIONS TOUR DIARY FINALE!!!

Last Night, Santa Barbara:

At this point in the tour I am in a perpetual state of exhaustion, even though I do almost nothing all day other than abuse the juicer in catering. I am so drained by the monotony that I lay down under the table in the green room before the show.

The last few shows have been in South California, so I've gotten a flood of requests for backstage passes. Here's a little secret about backstage: it is a spirit-sucking black hole of fun, combining the worst aspects of motels, convention centers and the waiting room at your dentist's office. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, please feel free to stay the fuck away from me on Halloween.

Before tonight's show I finally have a (very) brief conversation with RADIOHEN's Tom York, who I'm pleased to report is as tiny as I am. After the show, everyone hugs backstage and we get in the big white van one last time, setting our course for the EAST SIDE...

How many bands IS IT OK for one Indie Rocker to play in????

JUST HOW FAR CAN ONE INDIE ROCKER GO?

LAESIRC went to the streets of the LA EAST SIDE to ask this question: HOW MANY INDIE ROCK BANDS CAN ONE INDIE ROCKER HANDLE?

With band member cross-overs such as The Monolated/Tiger Lilies/Shirley Holes, Flying Turdilon/Ladies and Genitals/Mother Soap, Full Chin/LIARS/Bathroom Walls, I Make This Fart Sound/The Damn Sells, Le Bitch/Le Bitch, Latemart/Mt. Everest, we wonder just how these indie rockers keep shit straight!

The answer is vague. Our Psych sources tell us Indie Rockers have issues with low self esteem, making them vulnerable to over commitment (problems saying NO!--which can also lead to teen pregnancy and other unwanted situations).

Keep questioning everything. Keep it INDIE! Stay tuned for the next Indie Rocker analysis brought to you exclusively by LAESIRC....

DAY 6- LOS ANGELES !!!

"At the Hollywood Bowl security is tight, meaning that you have to negotiate a human minefield of fake cops laboring under the notion that if they don't check your badge for the 100th time, JFK might get shot again. We play in broad daylight to a....erm..."modest" crowd, due in part to the fact that most people are still sitting in traffic. The first fifty rows are almost empty, except for the young couple in the front row on my side of the stage enjoying what appears to be a gourmet pizza.

"During Radiohen's set I meet up with the weird guy who used to run Sea Limit, the record store in Echo Park, and members of Silverstone Hiccups. Ultimately, I decide that security isn't so bad when one of the younger team members recognizes me from my current EAST SIDE band, Full Chin."

TOUR DIARY - DAY 5555555555

PORTLAND cont'd:

Radio Heads skipped straight from Seattle to San Francisco, so LIONS headlined last night's show at an INDIE club in Portland. It was like being back on the EAST SIDE! Within reason, of course. Nothing Portland has to offer can compete with Monday nights at SPACELAND, or Thursdays at SILVERLAKE LOUNGE or the delicious sting of a $3 Dewars on any night at THE ECHO. However, it was endearing to see the Portland Indie kids trying to create a real "scene." So cute!! Like witnessing a sickly baby deer trying to stand on its weak, spindly legs and walk like a healthy robust fully grown deer--so adorable!!

Anyway, when we had the day off, the drummer Julian and I watched Kindergarten Cop and a reality show about trying to work for Diddy in our room at the SF airport Days Inn.

In SF, we play a show with
Tom Petty.

TOUR DIARY - DAY 3 - SEATTLE

(S. Bing on Radiohead Jumbotron)

SEATTLE
August 21, 2008

Day 3-

Kurt once said, "I'm not like them, I can't pretend," which is kind of how I feel about trying to keep up with LIONS and their freakish weight gain. Please see the photo below of my modest dinner including fresh beet/carrot/ginger/celery juice. Oh, and I met a guy from Radiohead named Colin.

Colin is not TOM YORK.

RADIOHEAD TOUR DIARY - ENTRY #2

VANCOUVER
August 20, 2008

Day 2 -

Got my official red aluminum Radiohead water bottle. Only band members get red bottles. Everyone else gets the blue ones. Ate two pieces of chocolate cheesecake in the catering tent. Subconsciously I think I'm trying to fatten up because, once again, the other LIONS have appeared to put on weight virtually overnight.

Still no sign of TOM YORK.

RADIOHEAD TOUR DIARY - Entry #1

LAESIRC has moved beyond the EAST SIDE of LA (I know, can you believe it?) for a week to bring you exclusive WEST COAST TOUR info!

LA East Side Indie Rock band
FULL CHIN's own Sam Bing is playing the baritone saxophone for none other than the infamous Radio Head opening act, LIONS.

August 19, 2008

Day 1 -

Ate Louisianna Hot Links sandwich at Jody Maroni's Sausage Kingdom at LAX airport. Followed that with Lemon Poppy Muffin from Starbucks. Even though it's only been 36 hours since I last saw LIONS, they all seem to have put on weight.

No sign of TOM YORK yet.

More West Coast Tour Diary Entries to come!!! Stay tuned for more...and keep it INDIE! !!!!

LAESIRC Editorial: "East Side" Indie Bands -- Are They ALL Awesome???

While enjoying a $3 Dewars at the final night of the Le Swish residency at the Ecco on Monday, I looked around the room and saw so many members of my favorite local INDIE bands: The Harry Clam People, Flying Turdillion Archestra, Addie Liar and the Philly Cheese Steaks, Full Chin, Subtraction Day, as well as the weird guy who used to run the record store down the street. I had to pause and ask myself this question: East Side L.A. INDIE bands -- are they ALL awesome??? It's a good question!

I thought about it a lot on the drive home while bumping the advance copy of the new Sweat Hurt album that Windy gave us so we can review it (release show at Pearshape on 6/7!!!). So many bands -- can they all be the best??? Are they all AWESOME???

Yes.

That's all for now -- more reviews coming soon. Keep it INDIE, you guys!

Local INDIE Bands Discuss New Local Indie Blog!

Our sources tell us that members of local INDIE bands were spotted hanging out at esteemed EAST SIDE establishment, Mr. T-Bowl, and talking about none other than THIS BLOG!!! Key members of both Flying Turdillion Orcasthra and Dead Man Anders were apparently taking in the gritty EAST SIDE ambiance and enjoying beers when the topic of conversation turned to the LA EAST SIDE INDIE ROCK CONNECTION! Looks like the HEAT IS ON!!!!!

Some people are just born to keep it indie!

Indie Gossip Connection

Rumor has it that a certain boy lead singer of a certain EAST
SIDE indie band is playing for the “other team,” if you know what we mean! That’s right: GAY!!! Can YOU guess who it is?

More reviews coming soon...

Castlegate & Full Chin at Eagle Rock Drinking and Bowling PROM PROMISE

It was a sweaty night at All Star Bole in Eagle Rock (EAST SIDE!) this past Sunday Evening. However, that didn’t stop the crowds from flooding the floor and bouncing to the trip hop sounds of Full Chin and soulful syncopations of Castlegate.

LAESIRC spotted several local indie bands at the show including The Monolated, Amniotic, Early-Mart, Seasonings, Flying Tourbillion Symphony, Divisionderando, Fabulous Toy, and a few local bloggers too. The local indie bands in attendance seemed to be enjoying themselves, drinking Budweiser or some other cheap domestic beer.

Stay connected to your local Indie Rock information right here, where the action is.

More reviews coming soon…

Local Blogger Spotted!

LAESIRC recently attended the Liam Fenn, Laura Veneirs, and Let's Get Sailing gig at The Echo on May 7th. Spectacular!

While trying to find parking (no fun!), our LAESIRC correspondent spotted none other than local blogging luminary, MOUSE!!! His blog, Classic Geek Orchestra was an inspiration for our blogs!

Sources say Mouse loves the classic '80s video game Gaxagan, and he will challenge you to video game battles!

Keep it indie, you guys!
